Today we visited the Jose Pepper's in Salina, KS. Being longtime supporters of JP's, particularly the one in Olathe, we have been delighted by the service and food we have received at the Salina location. Unfortunately, today was an awful experience. We showed up to a fairly quiet restaurant at 3:30. Several employees looked our way as we stood at the front desk, but no one approached. We stood there several minutes before the bar manager came over. She did not initially speak to us, but then eventually looked up and uttered that it was a shift change before ushering us to the table. As I have done for 20+ years, I ordered a house margarita with a small amount of the strawberry mix on the side. Never once has this been questioned. Heck, I am willing to pay for that small amount of strawberry on the side if that is necessary. After ordering our appetizers and drinks the bar manager appeared and told me that was not allowed and they would not be fulfilling my request. I expressed my disappointment in the situation as this is how it has always been ordered and she just said she was explicitly told this was not allowed. Again, if she had simply walked up to the table and stated I would need to pay for the strawberry, that would have not been a problem, but that option was not given. It was simply a 'no' end of story situation. A beautiful day at one of my favorite restaurants dampened by someone who would neither problem solve nor give options. Just 'no' like I am a five year old who is not allowed to have something. I am super bummed and I sincerely hope that if we return to this location the good experiences we have had in the past return. The food we intended to order was not as the whole experience frustrated me so much we paid for what we had initially ordered and left.

The chicken avocado enchilada meal is my 'fave' dish!! The combo of jalapeño cream sauce & avocado is so yummy!! The amazing thin, hot chips and cilantro lime rice are at the top of my delicious-ness list too… it all keeps me coming back as a regular!
